Southern Extra High Redundancy Pipeline Design
Various Locations, MA
The Massachusetts Water Resource Authority (MWRA) Southern Extra High pressure zone services ten Massachusetts communities, and is deficient in distribution and lacking in redundant distribution pipelines. As a result, the town of Norwood, with an estimated population of 28,000, has no back-up water supply and there have been instances when the water supply to the town has been interrupted due to valve and/or pipe failures.
The MWRA is constructing a redundant water supply to Norwood. The project consists of running 5.4 miles of 36” water pipe from the Bellevue water tank in West Roxbury through Dedham and Westwood and will come to Norwood by way of University Avenue. In addition to building redundancy, the project will also increase distribution storage within the service area to improve system operation and reliability.
Bryant, as a subconsultant, provided survey, design and resident engineering services.
