Bryant Associates - Green Building/LEED
Green Building/LEED
T
he LEED criteria has become the predominant standard for determining whether a building is considered a green building. Developed by the
United States Green Building Council
the criteria evaluates the whole-building performance. The five main categories within the criteria are Sustainable Sites, Water Efficiency, Energy & Atmosphere, Materials & Resources, Indoor Environmental Quality.
Recognizing the trend in green building, Bryant has several engineers trained in the LEED criteria. We also have LEED accredited professionals that can guide the project through the certification process. If you are considering taking your project through the LEED process we strongly suggest you have a LEED trained staff in place early. It is much easier to take a project that has been designed with LEED and remove some items then it is trying bring in LEED required items into the project after the fact.
There are many reasons why to build a green building, below is a short list of why:
Lower Operation and Maitenance Cost
Occupants Productivity Rises (studies have shown a 16% increase)
Less Sick Days
Reduces Impacts on the Community
Better Public Acceptance of the Project
Additional Cost, if any, of constructing the project are generally recovered by the higher productivity and reduced O&M within a few years.
