Woonasquatucket River Greenway – Providence, RI

The City of Providence wanted to extend the Woonasquatucket River Greenway which consisted of a separated bikeway/shared-use path along the Woonasquatucket River. Bryant worked as a subconsultant and provided structural engineering services for two abandoned railroad bridges that span the Woonasquatucket River in the project area, including survey. Bryant also provided topographic, boundary and utility survey services for the greenway.

The structural engineering services included the preparation of a Preliminary Structures Report to document the existing condition of the bridges and to evaluate the viability of the bridges to be re-used as part of the greenway. The report also included recommendations for rehabilitation/replacement options for each of the bridges with proposed cross sections and cost estimates. The two bridges were scanned to provide existing conditions plans for the evaluations.

The topographic survey included all surface features, wetland flags, and one-foot contours. Inverts of sanitary sewer and drainage structures were also obtained. The boundary survey included retracement of the city street lines and adjacent property lines, which required obtaining record plans and deeds, street line plans and highway plats, and recovery and locating property line and right-of-way monumentation. Record utilities were also added to the existing condition base plan prepared for the project.
