Bryant led a team for the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery (RIVMC) site survey and master plan project, providing project management, surveying and GPS support in 2018. Bryant survey crews performed boundary and topographic survey through aerial mapping and supplemental on-the-ground surveys to depict existing conditions of the 280-acre cemetery. In addition, Bryant provided the design of stormwater management facilities to support the master plan.

Our work included the location / identification of approximately 30,000 existing grave sites, columbarium wall niches, memorial sites throughout the cemetery (benches and tree dedication stones), which were performed utilizing a geospatial handheld Global Navigation Satellite System. A GIS spatial database was generated that links to the cemetery’s existing database system as a foundation of the cemetery data that could be expanded to be an interactive web map or mobile application with user-friendly/interactive tools that cemetery staff or visitors can access to locate individuals and obtain burial records.

Upon completion of our survey work and the master plan, in 2019 Bryant was selected to continue work at the RIVMC providing final design services. This work includes the first phase of a five-phase design for a new columbaria area that will accommodate 14,000 niches. Bryant also provided site-civil design for vehicular and pedestrian accessibility to the site. The design includes site analysis, circulation, site amenities, drainage and erosion control, utilities, irrigation systems, review of development regulations (environmental assessments and flood plains) and permitting with RIDEM. Construction is underway and is anticipated to be completed by December 2021.
